Okay, I admit it. Yesterday during church, the speaker gave a great message to start off the Thanksgiving holiday right, and I “chickened out” during the response time. Maybe it’s because we are new and I am still getting my feet wet, but I decided I would share my response to this message with you guys instead. We read a great passage out of Psalm, which I am sad to say I forgot what exact passage it was…BUT the message stuck, and I memorized half of the whole chapter…it is simply, “His [God’s] love endures forever” no matter what.
At the end, we were asked to fill in the blank to these 3 statements…
- God, thanks for rescuing me from __________________.
- God, thanks for redeeming me for __________________.
- God, thanks for restoring me to ____________________.
I thought for moment and then was interrupted from my reflection as the speaker then asked if there was anyone in the auditorium that was willing to stand up and share one of their statements with the community. I was amazed as numerous people, all different in age, sex and background stood and shared what they were…well…thankful for. It was confirmed in my heart that my family and I have found a great community of Christ followers that celebrate life-change and live out an authentic, transparent faith. I wanted to jump up and share my thoughts with our new “church home”, but I restrained myself…for some reason. BUT I was eager to sit down and share them with my online community…
- God, thanks for rescuing me from MYSELF.
- God, thanks for redeeming me for YOUR PURPOSES.
- God, thanks for restoring me to MY FAMILY.
Now you can read into these answers all you want, and conclude many different things right now about my life…maybe that’s why I didn’t respond at church yesterday…too chicken of what others might think. BUT thats okay, because you’re probably wrong. The one thing you can be assured of though, is that I thank God everyday…well starting yesterday at least…for the life He has rescued me from, in order to fulfill His purposes for the sake of my family and His kingdom.
So, what about you? What are you thankful for? What would your answers be to these statements?
