The new year is almost upon us and another chapter has been written in history. When you look back and reflect on your life, what do you see? What emotions stir in your heart when you think of the choices you made…or didn’t make. For me, 2011 has been a wild ride. It has been bitter-sweet. I love where my life is now, but I do miss where it was…
My family and I have transitioned from a great ministry in Toledo to a new exciting adventure in Indy. In 2011 we added to our quiver, and now with three boys ages 5 and under, it is definitely full…lol. Personally, I made the move from being a full-time pastor at a church to a full-time stay at home dad. I went from just living my life to learning how to share it with others. BUT, reflection is more than just mentally revisiting the timeline of your life, it is about learning from your decisions….good or bad.
Questioning yourself, or your choices, is never an easy task…but it is necessary to move forward and grow. This time each year, I always ask myself questions like:
- Did I spend enough time with my family?
- Am I doing what I know God wants for me and my family?
- What did I teach my kids this year…or fail to teach?
- How am I doing as an leader, do I have the right strategy for maximum influence.
- What did I read this past year…am I still growing?
I could go on…but you get the point. The most important thing to ask is…when you look in the mirror, do you like what you see? I’m not talking about outer appearances, although those are important questions too, but do you like what you’ve become? Our choices, like in the past year, do define us and slowly make us who we are…today. The new year brings us hope though, because the new choices we make in 2012 will define us and makes us who we will and can be…tomorrow.
So, what about you? What choices do you regret, or are proud of, that you made in 2011? What are some of your plans, or resolutions, for 2012?
